Some people in our surrounding like our friends, family, people in our local community have different types of way to celebrate new years, some people don’t celebrate new year because of their religion or they just have other necessary reason, but there are also similarities on how we or them celebrate new years, for example :

Why are there some similarities between celebrations in different parts of the world?
Our celebration can be similar because we might have things in common like spending time with our families, but our family activities might be very different. That’s why there's always differences in every celebration, because things we do can be the same but the activities are different.
How and why some features of New Year’s celebrations have achieved a global reach while others are very local?
Fireworks are one of the most popular New year’s celebrations that have achieved a global reach. It’s because most people believed that the sound made evil spirits afraid and so they were used at a number of happy occasions to ward off evil. Or others just think that it's the best way to celebrate new year and welcome the new year with excitement and in a positive way.
There are other celebrations that are very local, one of the reasons why is because not many people really believe in the history of the celebration.
